Safe Routes to Schools is a
federally funded program designed to decrease traffic and
pollution and increase the health of children and the
community. This is accomplished through many strategies
including education, encouragement, enforcement, evaluation and
engineering - each complimenting the other.
BWR brings to the table
professionals who have conducted numerous SRTS studies
throughout the country and have attended the SRTS National
Training Course on how to conduct SRTS studies. This training
along with our experience enhances our understanding of all the
above strategies and more specifically our focus on the
engineering strategies that address four key areas:
-
The School
Zone
-
Along the School
Route
-
Crossing the
Street
-
Slowing Down
Traffic
Our approach is centered on
community involvement and includes facilitation of public
meetings and the coordination of surveys to not only understand
the needs but to educate the stakeholders in the benefits of
this program. This involvement and feedback in conjunction with
the Pedestrian Facilities Audit enables our team of
professionals to develop a plan tailored to the particular needs
our each community. Project Portfolio
